Discovery Week

We all had a fantastic "Discovery" week recently, where we had the opportunity to work together in our house teams to create some dotty pieces of artwork. Back in Year 6, each class had to work together to save the planet of Alderaan from imminent destruction from the Death Star! We had to choose resources (and labourers) to take with us to a new colony on Galidraan, before we built our planet.

Easter Egg Competition

On Thursday 24th March, the day before Easter Friday, Rise Park will be holding its annual Easter egg event. As it is our Year 6 pupils' last time to shine, we are hoping for some "cracking" (*groan*) entries this year. Best of luck!

Sport Relief

On Friday 18th March, the Year 6 pupils will be taking part in "Sport Relief". We will be running the mile for charity, hoping to raise money this year through sponsorship. We will also be dancing for charity in school to this year's official Sport Relief video - you can practise your moves at home by watching their video on YouTube. Wristbands will also be available on the Friday to purchase for £1.00 each.

The next Year 6 homework project will also be linked to aspects of this event and further details will follow shortly.

Brand New Chicken News!

Key Stage 1: the chicks are back in school in the Nursery. They've grown so much and continue to do so every day!

We look forward to relocating them to their new enclosure on the Key Stage One field in the near future; look out for them soon.

Key Stage 2: we have 6 new hens, which have already begun to lay. Get your raffle tickets on the Key Stage Two playground every morning to be in with a chance of winning a superb box of fresh, Rise Park eggs.

Our new band of chicken carers are doing a fantastic job. Well done and thank you for your commitment and enthusiasm :)

Shelters

On Friday 11th September, Year 6 took to the field to work in teams to construct their own shelter, linking in with our class book, "Children Of Winter". Battling against the elements, each group used wooden canes, old sheets, string and tape to put together shelters that could house their team.

Success was varied! However, we had a great time and the children worked brilliantly together: well done Year 6!

Welcome to Year 6!

Welcome to the Year 6 blog for the 2015-16 cohort. On this page you will find forthcoming events, activities we have completed in / out of school and plenty of other useful bits of info.

Maybe something about the chickens too...

Anyway, have fun checking in and feel free to leave us your comments.

Colombian Link

We had such an amazing week when our Colombian friends visited Rise Park. Since then, inspired by our linking schools project, both the Rise Parkers and Colombian children and staff have been really busy doing lots of follow up activities. Check out the following link to see what we have been up to!

Edmodo in ICT...

Following on from our Dragon's Den finale last half term, our new ICT topic focuses on our growing role as project managers, while developing our mobile app.

We are discovering how virtual learning environments can support our learning journeys in school, allowing pupils to collaboratively work both in class and at how within a safe online environment. For our VLE, we have chosen to use Edmodo, which is a free educational resource to use in schools.

We look forward to seeing each company plan within their virtual learning environments!

2014 Christmas Production

By the end of  this week, all of the children involved in this year's Christmas production, "Christmas Is Forever", will have been given their scripts. Please can you make sure that you are practicing your lines on a regular basis, so that when we start rehearsals you will not need to use your script!

Top tip from Miss Allen:
Highlight all of your lines in your script, in order to help you to identify and rehearse your parts.

We are looking forward to seeing you all on the stage, shining like the stars you are!

The start of weekly homework...

From now, until further notice, Year 6 will be given homework on a weekly basis.

Subjects to be covered will include mental maths, SPAG work, spellings and comprehension support.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask one of the Year 6 staff before your homework is due in!

Best of luck :-)
